Spare wheel carrier safety latch

Mine is long since broken on the tin top, I'd forgotten how useful they are and would like to replace it.
Looks to me like it just slides in and the plastic is the spring but the pic on here shows two parts held by a pin, I can't see any pin or how you would get to a pin?
Anybody know anything or replaced this before?
thanks
Paul

It was the early metal catches that had a pin, the later plastic ones just hook over. The size of the slots will tell you which type is needed

Thanks Bigherb, you can see from my pic it doesn't have a pin, just all plastc but I can only see the old type listed on the etka link above ( which has late van selected) any idea what the later type part number is?

thanks but that appears to be the early 2 part version, my question is what is the one part late version shown in my first pic?

There is only one part number listed all years (even on the early models microfich). It is possible that the plastic one was only a production line fitment for speed and the metal was only available as a spare to use stocks up or they just changed it to the plastic one and didn't change the part number (very unusual for VW though). But the part number should be marked on the plastic arm somewhere. If you find it let us know.

Plastic ones are not available new anymore so you dont need the number just ask on wanted for a plastic version, the metal spring is still available new.
