Syncro 1z TDI power plateau ?

my TDI conversion which has been in for the last 3 years has an annoying governor feeling to it, pulling up a hill all is great until I hit 2600 ish revs with a fair amount of throttle peddle. I can prevent the feeling by reducing the amount of throttle. It pulls strong building power well then as soon as I hit the 26/2800 rpm there is a very definite restriction feeling and no amount of throttle more has any effect !!! I have 2 different ECU's and just fitted a pair of upgrade chips into one of them but it makes no difference. I am using the OE 2.1 WBX snorkel ... could that be an air restriction ????

Had similar on mine, 1.9 1Y, it turned out to be rubber intake hose collapsing under load/heavy throttle when climbing hills. Have you tried, if it's possible, running it briefly without the snorkel, up a hil,l and see if makes any difference. Might be worth a try?

Are you using the original 1Z inlet and exhaust manifolds? The JX ones are restrictive and the CS even more so which is why I used the 1Y inlet and exhaust so that the engine could breathe easily.

Thanks Mr O .... pretty sure all is standard, also sure it wasn't like this when I first had it done. I am using the KN Apolo enclosed cone air filter.... could that be restrictive???

I have a K&N on mine and I wouldn't have thought that the resistance was very high through that.
Another thought - have you still got the EGR system in place? When I got my engine the intake was full of soot because of this.

Yes I do .... was a bit scared of removing it, but now you mention it I guess the symptoms fit !! Time to investigate, thank you.

Time to investigate indeed! This is the same issue that you had last September so I would have thought some progress should have been made by now or at least results posted to what you tried from the previous sound advice you were offered then instead of more 'diagnosing' from the keyboard?.
Seems you need to do some live data logging !

So... finally hope and think that this is now sorted !!!
As rediculas as it might sound, I think yat it was all down to an over fill of oil.
Had my oil changed and the guy who lives and dies diesel VW's knows that a golf oil change needs 4.5 litres ..
after fitting a new filter and putting in the 4.5 the ( extended) dip stick read over filled by quite a bit.
So it seems like the engine must sit at a bit of an angle in the syncro with a JX sump, probably holding a litre of oil that doesn't drain hence the over fil.
It's surprising that the symptom was so switch like and at an exact amount of revs 2700... but sorted it seems to be, I'll take that :ok

So did u drain a litre back out or was 4.5 correct?

The 1.9 TDI mk3 golf holds 4.5l ...
The syncro conversion with the JX sump either holds less or due to a slight incline of the way it mounts doesn't drain to empty.
So after filling with 4.5 we removed 0.5 ...
the rev limiter feeling stopped happening immediately :ok :ok :ok

Sorted ... boost was blowing past the plastic sensor housing ..a proper metal pipe with swage connection sealed it all nice and tight .... clean reving through now !!

Sewage connection - house sewer or main sewer? Bet it goes like stink!
