Advice for fixing required

1. Speedo needle won't sit still, it bounces around at all speeds. The white plastic clip at the back is in two pieces but don't know if that's right or not. £12 new cable replacement but wondered if it's a difficult job. Does it go all the way to the NSF hub?

2. Petrol gauge needle wanders up and down a bit?

It could be that your connections/ribbon at the back of the binnacle are shorting or failing?

White plastic bit should be one piece sounds like a cable issue, maybe the cable end or hole in hub cover is rounded off and slipping.
Have never changed cable but can't imagine it's particularly difficult

Erratic fuel gauge is normal, at least as far as my vans are concerned.

Bouncy needle is normally the cable.
Tie a bit of cord to the old cable and pull it through the bulkhead when you remove the old cable then use the cord to pull the new cable through the bulkhead.
Make sure the seal in the rear of the stub axle is in good condition and make sure the cable has a downward fall from the stub axle



Use a sealant on the end of the cable in the grease cap, all to stop water ingress into the wheel bearings.

changed mine years ago because the plastic clip broke, mine is late style push on. where the clip broke it was no longer straight into the speedo, any sharp kinks will make it jump.

Replacement was worse so I put the oem back I made a plate with a couple of cable ties and fixed the clip.

I don't know why the replacement was worse than original.

...mine used to do just this. As above, checked the front passenger wheel attachment, then I disconnected from binnacle (I think that's the word) end in cab and propped up end of cable virtically. I fashioned a sort of funnel on the cable end using tape, then regularly dripped 3 in 1 oil (any light oil should be ok) down the 'ole! Left it overnight before reconnecting. Did that ten years ago, not had a problem since
