I have a holdsworth with big bumpers and want to remove the rear bumper and tow bar for a bit of paint work
I have managed to remove the rear bumper (with a struggle) but want to remove the towbar which goes into the rear chassis box section , I can see 2 bolts holding it to the chassis is it a case of undoing these and the towbar will slide out and should I have removed these first to get the bumper off as I did struggle to access bumper bolts

Guess no one has ever removed there big bumpers or towbar Ho well il wing it or ask on the dreaded Facebook Lol

Undo the bolts and it should come out, it may be in pieces or if westy , will come out complete.

I only have standard metal bumpers but yes, I found it almost impossible to access the bumper bolts without sliding the towbar out of the chassis first.

Just one more question where the towbar bolts into the chassis are these captive nuts

Yes captive nuts, I think they were M10 or M12, three bolts either side on mine. The nuts are welded onto the arms that slide into the chassis.

Thankyou ,is there any tricks/tips to stop captive nut from breaking
Can you get any wd40 in there

They're pretty solidly welded on...can't imagine them breaking. Maybe some penetration fluid would help.

some do come with heavy duty type rivnuts - if the bolts come out ok when re fitting cover the threads with copperslip and put a spring washer on each bolt to aide future maintenance

My holdsworth towbar has a spinning captive nut, it's the one right at the back thankfully so I plan to try and weld it but it's still hard to get to.
