diagnosing possibly dead JX?

My JX Engine developed a couple of symptoms such as excess of white smoke and a slight ticking coming from engine bay on last trip. Was told by AA probably injector 3 sticking open and that should be good to just carry on trip & get injectors sorted when home. Anyway at that point oil level normal. Within 10 miles awful clatter from engine bay sounded like a bag of spanners, swiftly pulled over and turned off engine. Found oil was about an inch and a half over on dipstick and mixed with diesel. Also the brickwerks mocal oil cooler is leaking from one connection and sure it wasn't like that before.

Anyway now it's at home I wonder what the best way forward is. Some people are saying just do oil change and recondition injectors and try engine again. Am a bit worried this could cause even more damage. So what would people that know these idi engines do in my position? Where should I start with it?? :ok

No AA man with a conscience would have told you to carry on your journey with a dodgy injector (if that's what it was). Did you make it home or have to ring back for recovery??? Either way get your local garage to inspect the fault and any subsequent damage and write up a report. Send it to the AA with a nicely worded letter stating that the patrol should not have told you to continue your journey risking the dilution of your oil with diesel and subsequent engine damage.
They should investigate and may offer to pay your repair bill :ok

thanks for the reply. Well as my van was producing white smoke I'd holed up at a site for a couple of days to rest it & have a look over. Then called AA he felt the line coming off injector 3 and he said feel that I think this is vibrating more than the other. It was just a bit ticky then & still more white smoke than normal. So we chatted he gave the advice to truck on, I double checked with another mechanic that said advice was sound and within 5 miles doing about 25 pootling along on the flat, some big old clanking from the rear.

Funny thing is a local Land Rover guy that uses them for expeditions said his advice would've been the same. Knowing what I know now I'd have stopped but it seems a lot of people would've advice carrying on was ok. So just gutted a perfectly good engine has been knackered through my own fault really. I could try to write to the AA, I'd feel bad about the guy though he was only doing his job.
