A difficult one this - you have to unclamp it at the injection pump and pull the cable through until the cab end is visible then it just unhooks from the handle. You can then free the outer. The pain is refitting it to the injector pump, damn fiddly.
(Which reminds me that I bought a new handle but have lost it before I could fit it.

)

No, wait! I'm sure I've had my dash out a few times without removing thecable. As I recall if you lie on your back with your head under the cold start handle, with a lamp, you can see that the cold start handle is housed in a separate section attached to the bottom edge of the dash. It's held on with I think 4 self tappers, that go vertically up unto the dash. At least two are well hidden... Then just leave the cold start handle hanging down.
At least, that's my memory of it. Did it not too long ago for my heater box, I'm quite good at taking the dash out now!

BTW, if anyone knows where to get a RHD cold start cable, I'd be interested. Mine is banjaxed, and I just have the lever on the engine in the pulled position all the time. The problem with it is a section that of the outer is melted, where it crosses over the small metal oil pipe, and also the cable outer is not clamped at the lever end, so it would only be able to pull the lever, not push it. (Apologies for hijacking...)

You may well be right - I was just replacing the cable and handle and not removing the dash. I used piano wire to make the new inner but my outer was still OK. You may be able to find a Teleflex one that is suitable.
