Oh no not again...

Pootled up the road to pick the kids up from. Big tapping sound from LH cylinder head, plenty of oil, turns into a clatter when I rev up. Is this yet another engine failure?

Check your push rods and seated correctly in their Hydraulic tappers

I have seen at least one person on here who had what appeared to be this, sudden loud tapping and after adjusting it was OK, I will try and find the post.

I find it hard to believe because when the pushrod is on the edge it's not going to adjust but if the adjustment was not done then maybe.

Here Andrew at Campershack worked it out, as you might expect from a professional WBX engine builder.

It was built by those guys who just love sealant so anything is possible. Just looking on internet to see whether this is something I can do on the road. Thanks I'll have a look at Andrews post

Club8090 is on the internet just ask here.

adjusting tappets is in Haynes, it's quite easy.

I just read through the thread. Looks straightforward enough to see whether they're all seated properly. It didn't happen gradually. Fine yesterday and sudden noise today.

if the pushrod was not seated it would suddenly jump back into the seat, it would not be gradual.

do the adjustment procedure first

Glad its not raining tomorrow. Will get onto it and hopefully I can see what I need and get the order in on time for Saturday. Never done anything in the engine so fingers crossed. What would I give for garage! I really hope its a pushrod because I think another engine would be the final straw for my Mrs. I look back nostalgically to my last van - rusty but ultra reliable diesel.

you don't need to order anything to adjust tappets, except maybe cork rocker gaskets but that can wait.

Just read it, I have done it before but thirty years ago. I'll only need to do one so I wont need to adjust them all will I? I've got new spark plugs so I'll change them as well.

STEP AWAY FROM THE SPARK PLUGS, one thing at a time.

Concentrate on the problem....

Start at TDC and do them all, it takes 15 mins if you are experienced an hour if not.
You can't possibly know which is the problem from listening.

Don't I have to take the sparks out to turn the engine to TDC? The Haynes is fr Hydraulics so hope I've got them. The final engine fitted was early I think
