I cannot seem to find a basic diagram of a CU engine (or not one simplistic enough for me). Can anyone point me to one - ideally clearly labeled so I can figure out what it what. Total beginner...

Do you have a Haynes manual ? The green version is for Aircooled.

Also if you go onto YouTube, you will find useful air cooled engine rebuild videos from our club member Sarran1955 (type his name in). Lots of useful stuff there.

Its basically a bigger Beetle engine with the fan housing removed and squashed down to make it more compact. Whilst it may have two carbs, its actually one carb, split into two.

Close enough...

After one of the Syncro mob posted about the Snow Trac he'd just acquired, I have gained a new-found appreciation of the merits of the VW Aircooled flat four.

Check it out. Freaking awesome IMO..

(PS. There's even a Porsche version.. I kid you not.)
