Brake fluid dripping down steering column cowling

Hi All,

Over Christmas I noticed a small pool of fluid on the drivers side cab floor mat. On removing the cowling around the steering column it looks like it is possibly dripping down from around where the brake servo is ( ).

I wiped it up and left the van for a few days to see if there was further leakage and there has been. I plan to get it over to my local VW specialist as soon as I can and dont plan on using it until it has been looked at but I wanted to ask if anyone else had experienced the same symptoms. I have had a good look at the wiki and also searched the rest of the forum but couldn't find much info.

Many thanks in advance.

The seals are probably gone on the brake master cylinder.
It leaks at the end and the fluid can get inside the brake booster and mess up the rubber diaphragm inside.
You could just fit a new master cylinder and hope that the brake booster will be ok.
Or if you wanted to change the brake booster at the same time, you could consider upgrading it to a slightly bigger booster from a BMW E30 which will give you the same braking power but you don't have to step on the pedal so hard.

Could also be the clutch master cylinder :pimp Usually manifests as a pool on the floor.

You need to remove the speedo cowling to see where it is coming from and also to make a visual check/top up of the fluid level - especially before you drive to your mechanics.

Get the cover off the speedo and you'll see what's what.
