1990 Westfalia California Hi Top 1.6 Turbo Diesel
are you after this camper specificaly or any factory high top conversion in good condition?
i.e Autosleeper, Reimo, Devon, Autocruise, Leisure drive...etc
Glad I've found you, can you advise?

it's your choice Peter but I would suggest seeing as many conversions as you can. and there are a lot more than I have named.
I chose the Autosleeper because of its storage , equipment and quality of materials.
mine cost me £5000 from a dealer in return I had a service history to die for (metaphoricaly speaking)
dates for everything replaced with reciepts....
and the van had so obviously been cherished as we do now
westies do command a higher premium it's true. and the build quality is well....german...consequently there is no grill for toast!!

your doing the right thing by asking
it's a lot of money to spend on a leisure item so look hard and long then go with you heart........
or just buy the westy

hi peter with 226k and that price i would be looking for a new engine in it i have an 88 autohomes karisma i think its a good layout but try arround you should get a good one cheeper try auto trader and camper magazines ebay have some that might be near to you. also try to get 88 upward as vw give them an anti rust treatment.thers a nice one on the swap section on here

Hi Peter, welcome!
Can't advise well on mechanicals, but having just bought mine, try using the links on this site to get to others and browse as many "sales" sites as possible, to give you a good idea of types and layouts.
munichkampers.co.uk and links from just kampers are good for examples of vans. I should also check out the wiki (top of page, little hammer symbol) for advice for new owners/prospective buyers. Also browse this site for buying advice (lots on here from previous newbies), and heed the bodywork in good condition comments.
Where to buy? Well check this site for sales and to obtain relative prices, listen to the moderators advice and other regular contributers (you will soon recognise them from old threads). Anything from Mr Simon Baxter carries great weight! If you can find someone to show you a vehicle and point out potential problem areas before you buy would be excellent. Caution with ebay, and good hunting. Hope this has been of some use.

Sounds like a bargain from what I`ve seen at dealers
Bodywork is the biggest factor, slight bubbling means it will need sorting sooner rather than later, unless you don`t mind the brown stuff coming through
Engoine rebuild is only nuts n bolts and some cash
