Hello
I have done a search and I can find a few bits about various relays but no definitive diagram labelling all the sockets / relays and what they can be used for, can anyone help please.
Below is a photo of my fuse box, different layout of relays to others I have seen in threads and on some the relays are in different places or are not there at all...confused dot com
any help much appreciated, irishkeet

Many Thanks Bigherb, thats exactly what I was looking for

location 03 - relay 43 - Coolant Level - relay 43 in place
Location 05 - relay 24 - Radiator Fan -
Missing
Location 06 - relay 53 - Dual Horn -
Missing
Location 07 - relay 15 - Fog Light -
I have relay 53 in this position?
Location 08 - relay 17 - relief for X contact -
I have relay 17 and no idea what relief from X contact is
Location 10 - relay 17 - Intermittent Wiper -
Understand I can also replace with relay 99
Location 11 - relay 20 - Rear wash / wipe -
I have relay 72? van used to have a rear wiper, not now so I guess this could be removed?

Depends on the spec of the van.
X contact relay is the relay that switches off the wipers and heater etc (but not the headlamps) when you start the engine.
53 is just a standard 4 terminal relay which is why it has been used in the fog lamp position.
Fan relay depends on engine, high output 450/500W fans have the relay mounted on the A post above the fuse box.

Location 05 - relay 23 -> only present on 200/300W blower. On TDs and DJ the 450/500W fan has the relay on the A pillar with a 50A fuse
Location 06 - dual horn -> you need it when the factory dual horn setup is present (like on ambulances) It gives power to the L connector outlet on the back of the fuse box
Location 07 - fog light, 53 is standard 40A relay -> if you have the factory fog light wiring then it may work. AFAIK rear fog lights were standard on UK sold/registered vans. It gives power to pin 20 on connector B on the back side of fusebox when the ignition is on B20 is giving power to fog light switch -> if the factory wiring is missing then it is easier to make an independent fog light circuit, but you can use a wiring diagram to repro the original
Location 08 - X contact relay -> X contact line is a power line similar to ignition, but loses power while cranking. Usually high power consumers (eg. lights) are connected E D I T: Bigherb is right lights are ON
Location 10 - wiper -> yes, 99 is plug and play
Location 11 - rear wiper -> both 72 and 20 are rear wiper relays I think the 72 is a newer model if you can remove it if you have no rear wiper
Here is a list of VW-audi relays and their codes and partnrs:

It is german, so you may have to use google translate to the description, but the partnr references are international

Cheers Bigherb
The van was originally a Caravelle (heated rear screen with wiper), it now has westy double glazing.
with Location 07 - relay 15 - Fog Light - is this front or rear fogs? The rear fog lights work fine.
Will Location 06 - relay 53 - Dual Horn - give me a different horn sound?

Would this be the relay you mean?

It powers the switch so does rear and front if fitted.

No unless you fit dual note horns.
