Best Carbs for 2.0 l Aircold

Whats is the best carb set up for a fairly standard 2.0 l CU engine, old carbs are pretty unadjustable,
I have options for either reconditioned bought off a scrapper
Have the old ones done by Steve at Gasure
Or go for a pair of aftermarket carbs like , twin solexes with electric chokes or any other aftermarket ones webers etc.
Strapped for cash at the moment as engine being reconned and just bought a house.
Stock engine are the aftermarket solexes better or worse than VW set up ??, look a lot less complicated in terms of the linkages and pipe work

Well I bought Weber twin 32ICT carbs from Stateside tuning, when I had a new engine a while back, think about 4 years, and it cost about £370 !
They work well enough, no chokes, but it always starts on the button.
My biggest on-going headache is the air filters, I use Empi beetle chrome ones, but really I want nice cold clean air from outside the engine bay, but have not figured out how to do it yet. The linkage means that the standard central mounted square box can't be used.

I've just had twin EMPI's fitted on my CU and fully ballanced they are great. No choke but it starts fine. Needs a bit of revving first start but will idle on its own after about 2 mins in really cold weather.
I did wonder about the chrome air filters not fetching air from outside the engine bay but I have been assured it isn't a problem. Mike the Van, I'd be interested to hear if you have any issues or work arounds on this issue

grab a pair of dellortos (36 or 40 drla) off a scrap alfa. rebuild them and slap em on.
more power and more mpgs.
you will also need inlets and a linkage and 2 inch and three quarter filters.
and the sound is to die for!!!

Er, you should have nice cool air from in the engine bay, unless you are missing tinware and a seal.... the engine bay is "cold" the under side is "hot" and these MUST be seperated and seal well for engine life to be good..
Yes there is some radiated heat, but I bet the engine bay air temp in a running 2L is cooler than a wbx...
