AAZ timing questions II

I have posted previously regarding this but finally today I have been getting my head around checking the timing. It is an engine I bought which the previous owner had 'prepared' to drop straight in. It has been quite a journey!
I was told that he had set it up correctly but 'might' be a tooth out.
It passed its MOT on emmisions but I am concerned that it isn't running quite right and is a bit noisey and smokey under load.
Have checked that all is correct with the fuel pump and had the rocker cover off injector out and done the appropriate checks.
However when checking the fly wheel in the spy hole at the top of the bell housing. there is an arrow indicator on the gearbox but there is no marking for TDC on the flywheel.
I have checked at 180 degrees still nothing.

I have fitted the original flywheel from my JX and 5 speed petrol gearbox.
Is there something I am missing?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Timing marks are on the clutch pressure plate not the flywheel. Can't find a picture at the min but as you turn the engine over there is a square lug sticking out from the pressure plate followed by a "v" notch which is the tdc Mark followed by another square lug to tell you, you have gone too far.
It's all much easier to see if you remove the screw in bung from the bellhousing as well as the small push in one, you will need a 27 mm hex to remove it, you may be lucky with something blunt to tap it round.

Thanks for the picture. I saw this on the clutch and looked for markings on the flywheel.... will look again in the AM and report back!

Yippee, thanks for posting pic MGP. :ok
New member on here with a recently acquired '85 Devon with JX engine and I was struggling to find TDC. Hopefully this will help.

So I have sorted the timing and yes it was a tooth out.
Running noticeably quieter which is great.
However it is still a smoking under load.
Thinking now it might be a fuel pump issue as it is ticking over a little high.

Look at the back of the pump, does this screw have the security collar on it as shown in picture or has it been removed.
