Knocking sound under load

Hi gang,

Bit of a odd one. When I put my foot down I get a strange knocking sound from the back. Seems to go when cruising at 55. Noise goes when the clutch goes down. CV joints have just be done, any ideas?? Will try and get a video of the noise on tomorrow.

It seems like it one thing or another at the mo, such is the joys eh..

If the CV joints have just been done, you might check that they are still tight (or even all there). Most people don't tighten them up enough, and they just come undone. Correct torque is 45Nm 33lb ft, which is tighter than you can usually acheive with an ordinary Allen key.

Would need to be diagnosed further, but big end problems would mean an engine rebuild.
Loose cv bolts would be a lot better!

Lovely.

Just got a 'new' engine in it in September. Christmas the season of good news to all. Balls to that I say.

Will get someone to look it over

Check the bolts inside the rear wheels from the shafts. These are prone to falling out! Trust me, I know!

Right to update on this also...

Checked the CV joints (well garage has) all good.

I now think its the exhaust hitting the engine carrier. Pic included, not much space there.

The back does hit the valance on start up, but this makes a noise when accelerating, could that be it, it there anything I can do, or live with it??

I had this problem once and it turned out to be one of the driveshafts knocking on the inside of the drive flange. The shafts need to be centralised within the cv joints and the the boots positioned and tightened so that the shaft will not move far enough inwards or outwards to hit either the inner flange or the outer one inside. It happens under acceleration because the turning force effectively screws the shaft in and out as you accelerate. I hope I explained this well enough.
