I had that, it was the voltage regulator on the alternator.

Check the alternator mountings too, I had it and the alternator wasn't earthing out to the engine very well because the bottom bolt had worked looser than it should have been ....

I removed the regulator today, one of the brushes had worn right down the other still had loads on it.Any ideas what might cause this.? Knowing my luck I will probably need another alternator

Could be something simple like different brush springs giving uneven pressure. Or one brush was sticking/stiff in carrier not allowing full pressure.

One brush sticking so not contacting properly was probably the cause of the flickering.

I've had the same problem with flickering lights for the past few weeks and also have the same regulator fitted! Looks like I'll be ordering a new one myself.

It will be interesting to see if yours looks like this once you have removed it.This is about eight months old.

There does appear to be some very soft carbon brushes around, my power shower was needing new ones every 6 months but the latest batch (from China) have gone well over a year. I wonder if it is just poor quality control somewhere.

A new regulator solved the flickering. But the red dash light was still glowing.A change of alternator sorted it.Thanks Steve (Mocki) He was good enough to let me have his spare,he even came and helped me fit it.The 8090 spirit lives on.
