1.6D thermostat housing

Hi all,

I have a Devon conversion which I'm fixing up slowly. It has a water cooled 1.6D (naturally aspirated). I did a small trip out in it which unveiled some problems, the biggest of which is the thermostat is seized shut (which showed itself by forcing the header tank to make a very satisfying 'pop' sound).

Long story short I'm trying to get the thermostat out but I can't find the housing. Chased all the pipes to their various places, but nothing looks like the housing. Can anyone help me find the little bugger? I've looked on wiki but couldn't see anything with regards to a specific location...

Thanks in advance :)

It's on the water pump under the alternator cradle.

Be prepared to replace the plastic housing - they have a tendency to warp once taken off and become virtually impossible to get to reseal again.
I found it easiest to access from underneath, 2 bolts/studs (can't remember which) hold it on.

Thanks for the help guys :)

Got the 'stat out quite easily. It just starts to open as the water is coming to boil (stuck it in a pan) so I don't think this was the problem.

Any thoughts as to the pressure build-up?

Should open lower than that - need to use a thermometer to check properly. Mine opens at 82 deg, usual ones 85 I think.
