Heads up. For home or camper. Arrived in the post today - £2.17 from Hong Kong! Negative ion generator. Costs around £40+ here in a fancy case. All connected (240v). Works perfect. Happy days. Had the 240v one running in here for just ten minutes. Freshened the air damned quick. 12v one would work well in a camper where it can quickly get stuffy. If you've got one or ever used one you'll know how effective they are. If you smoke, its a must. Going to mod mine so it comes on intermittently.

Will crack on with it next week. Got a couple of project cases that would do the job. Nothing to it other than providing a 12v source. Could either be fitted with ciggy plug or wired to leisure fusebox. Either way, consumption is so low as to be insignificant but if you didn't want it on, you could just add a switch. I know you can get ones that plug into ciggy socket but so many of them are fakes now.

Very difficult to know its on unless you sniff near to it (your nostrils will know about it) or bring a candle close to it - flame will lean towards carbon brushes. Great little easy and cheap project though - and very functional. Helps reduce mould spores too, which might be good for high top owners in particular.

I have a terrible sense of smell and have not smoked,every so often I get period of 'clear tubes' and it is great m ind you I used to go into people houses to repair/service their wheelchairs and I was glad that I could not smell anything,amazing how some people live in utter filth and not see it

Update: The 12v version does indeed come with the carbon filaments so a total bargain. Left it on in the Smart all day as a test and it worked a treat.

Aye, that works but it does create a layer of dust everywhere. Negative ion generator grabs particles in the air. Might try one at work as I'm crammed into a room with servers and broken PCs. Not a pleasant atmosphere - too many positive ions.

I thought negative ion generators attach themselves to particles in the air, makin them heavier then air and causing them to fall to the floor. Thus, you breathe cleaner air. But doesn't this then just makes more dust equally so? I'm really interested in them but have never use them. The wife has severe eczema, an in-law a respiratory issue. Image anyone used one and ever noticed a difference?

A T25 is not a sealed container, any attempt to alter the air inside it must be futile, it was designed to allow movement of air.

I was considering for my house. On the basis I slept with the window open last night with a fan blowing air in, and it wasnt particularly cold. I can confirm that it is a sealed unit.

Nothing to do with humidity Kev. It negatively charges airborne particles with a high voltage (low amps). Its like the effect you get when you've been indoors for sometime then suddenly go outside on a fresh day. Lot of negative ions outside - mostly positive inside. Very pleasant to sit near one.

The two probes have tiny carbon filaments on them. Quite weird as it feels like its blowing air at you if you bring your hand near them. I had one many years ago and loved it. Perfect for anyone that suffers from hayfever too. In a camper, particularly when you're camped for the night and its all warm, it does get stuffy. Works even better if you blow a small PC fan across it.

I've got the 12v one in the Smart (comes on with ignition) and one at home thats on 24/7. You do notice it when you enter the room.

Theres a lot of rubbish spouted about negative ions (mostly sales pitch) but it does reduce airborne dust/pollen etc:

OK...so to re-iterate, this air with negatively charged particles, is always in your van or does it constantly change?
