...or an a budget, an ordinary relay. I picked up an 80amp Bosch one for £1 and mine has run on a basic one for last 8 years.

I couldn't say witch is best but I'm a great believer that not always the most expensive is the best so I went for the tec 2

That is only 15A max - are you using it to switch a more powerful relay?

Stick with a standard 75a relay as in CovKid drawing.
Cheap and probably the most reliable.

Please explain. Why would it be more reliable?

How often have you changed a relay since you have been driving
How many bits of electronics have you changed ?

Never changed a splitcharge relay, never needed to.Im not sure what electronics you mean. I have mostly only added to the electrics.Sorry if I am missing something but your reply does not seem to answer my question.maybe it's me being a bit thick.

That's a very good point nicq so it's a 75amp relay for me I never thought of it that way

If you have never changed any electronic unit, be it ign, flasher, wiper timer, audio buser etc then you are lucky. But changing a relay is virtually unheard off.

The good thing about a simple relay is they're easier to get (locally) should you have problems. Intelligent relays generally require less wiring - thats their main advantage and some can sense state of charge, but I've not found a good reason to justify the upgrade or cost. If it works, it works.

I have a voltage sensing type and an intellegent battery charger that is connected to the main battery
When I plug in mains it charges both batteries.
I assume with a standard relay that would not work.
