Hi All,

going to create a new post regarding this as I am going to do the job myself, apologies if i am duplicating questions but i am a bit of a noob.

Here is what i understand so far:

Removal of Viking Roof:

lots of rivets to be drilled out
need help removing roof
take pics before to sell after

if anyone wants to buy a viking roof then i will be selling mine, works perfectly well, canvas is a bit tired but struts etc all work well

Fitting of High Top Roof:

what type of adhesive do i need
is the roof fitted with anything more than adhesive
what is the best sealant
does the roof have an other internal frames etc, i just have a fibreglass shell
can you buy a ready made double slide out bed for the roof

huge thx in advance

Arvon

Can't answer much of the above nor have I any experience of doing that job, but the usual adhesive used is Sikaflex or Tiger seal for any trim or body joining.

Does the fibre glass have any stiffeners moulded in, because if not will it will flex horribly? Does the new roof have any reinforced corners or strips where you can obviously bolt through? That would give you a clue - that said I think most are bonded on..

Regarding sleeping arrangements, I tried to find a ready made bed but couldn't. I believe westfalia made some rails and associated parts for their roof but mine is different dimensions.
I bought a double slattedbframe from IKEA and modified it to fit with a removable section supported by their centre strut. Very solid and total cost about £80 not including mattress which I had already.

thx for the replies guys.

had a look 'inside' the roof yesterday, picking it up it does seem to wobble a bit so will probably need some sort of strengthener.

think i am going to call a few vw specialist garages and see what they recommend.

The Sikaflex most people use is Sikaflex 512 Caravan, which you can even pick up in some branches of GoOutdoors. Make sure you check the expiry date on the tubes as it won't go on properly if it's gone past it's use-by date. Also, the sealant has quite a 'stiff' consistency and so it apparently benefits from the tubes being warmed slightly on a radiator before use.
