Second hand underslung tank?

Quick couple of questions...
I've been looking at fitting an underslung gas tank, to run the cooker and heater. They come up on ebay fairly regularly, but I was wondering if its a good idea to buy second-hand? Anyone else done this? Also - I'm guessing that most replies are going to say "yes, that's fine, but get it serviced" - so who does that sort of thing? Any pointers?

Search on here for westy tank and you will find rebuild threads, and also disaster threads where the tank has holed whilst being sandblasted. I am presently installing a decent quality westy tank on mine. The tank is fine but I am having difficulties with the regulator, which all means escalating costs.
I now wish that I had gone with my initial intention which was to buy new from Tinley Tech. So that is my recommendation for you.

They are reliable yes but mostly very old now, why you would bother fitting a 30 year old rusty untested tank whan you can buy new at reasonable prices is beyond me, it's a gas tank full of high pressure liquid gas strapped to your pride and joy.

I bought one for 20 euros.
It works and has done for 5 years or so.

If you buy one get it blasted and then you can really see the condition of the outside.

Other than that it is pot luck.

As said above - they are available new for reasonable prices.
