The Propex heater in my camper puts out no heat....Fan works fine.
Are there silly things to check before I decide to send it off to Propex for a repair ?

Is it new to you, did it work?

If your sure you have gas on then when you set the stat and call for heat have a look at the box with the two light on, one lights when the voltage is too low, fan will keep running but it closes the gas solenoid. so stick a battery charger on and try again.

BTDT.. Make sure the 12V wire from the battery and earth wires are thick enough. The propex draws enough current to drop the voltage below its working limit if the wires aren't up to it. Use 3mm sq. or better to be on the safe side, specially if the battery is marginal.

this time of year use propane not butane,easy mistake,cj.

I've just sent mine back to propex for checking.Similar problem.Their tec.dept was very helpfull in suggesting checks I could make before sending it back(tel.023 8052 8555).The no of times the red light flashes should indicate where the problem lies.Apparently one problem is solids in the gas which is gumming up the works.You could blow out your gas line and see if there is any muck in there.

Are you using propane gas?(red bottle)---if you are using butane(blue bottle)it wont work in this cold weather---

Kev----butane is more economical in use than propane which is why it is better for summer use-----but get toward 0 degrees C & it wont atomise properly--while your gas ring will proberly work ok almost down to 0 -blown air heaters often cut out on butane at 8 degrees C---propane(red bottles) works ok well below zero so tis best to have it in yore van Oct/Mar--

I'm assuming now that the gas fittings are the same (bottle to reg)?

Kev. Butane and propane have different fittings , on bottle to reg'

Another advantage of propane is that the connector is std so whichever part of the country you swop out in you wont need to change the reg.

Could give you a technical brief on the evaporatice profiles for both mediums but suffice to say if you intend to do any traveling in cold weather stick with propane and use it all year round

Yes it is new to me...Only got the camper recently and no it has not worked for me before.

Yes--I've got butane

A Gas Safety report from February that was in with all the docs says Heater not functioning.

I will try Propane and I will see what lights flash when trying to start it...also what cable is supplying the heater.

If all that fails then I shall contact Propex as advised and get it checked out.
