Emissions query - overdue mot!

I've fallen a long way behind schedule and find myself without an mot - naughty boy! Anyway, before sub,it ting the van for its test I go for a good run in order to warm it up in the hope that the emissions I'll pose less of a problem - it may be unnecessary but it's just what I've done for the past few years. It's recently been pointed out to me that I've got a worn guide which shows itself on the overrun but only when the engine is warm. I've been doing short school runs and the like for the past 2 weeks and not spotted a single puff of smoke.

So, if I get the engine warm on the way to the test centre will it be detrimental and pose more of a problem than a cold engine? That's it, thanks in advance.

Hi, should make no difference to the test as the vehicle must be at 'normal operating temperature' for the emissions test anyway.

At normal operating temperature, won't the burning oil be a problem? I appreciate that the tester won't be experiencing the overrun whilst the probe is in the exhaust, just wondering what effect it may have. Thanks.

My van burns oil in a similar fashion and has done so for a couple of years. It has never failed its MOT because of this but each year "blue smoke" appears on the list of advisories. Should be OK.

If the van passes the emissions test @ 2000 rpm then it passes period.
If it fails at that speed then it fails altogether
