Immobiliser and Dashboard

Evening All,

1984 1,9 DG W/C

I decided to remove my Dash couple of days ago, after a couple of snags removed successfully and now
all wires, connectors, earths, etc. cleaned, wiper linkage greased . Treated what little rust there was around Screen and painted, Dynaxed everywhere under top panel and along Windscreen joint, blasted loads ! :)
Dash still off .

Now then, before removing Dash, the Dash Immobiliser red led which is lit on first step of ignition key and then key fob pressed in direction of red led light which cancels led and immobiliser, key then turned fully and engine fires up .

Trying to start van before my Dash job, no chance, no light on Dash red led light so immobiliser stopping ignition .
Starter battery charged up, Leisure is dead which I would'nt have thought made any difference . Ignition light flashing, oil light on, all lights work apart from that b....y led .

Anyway, my question is, can I reconnect starter battery whilst all switches not connected and dash is off and is this safe ?
It will be soooo much easier to trace faults on immobiliser with dash off, poor sod who installed it 13 years ago must have been a midget with extra long fingers !
Immobiliser is a Sigma M30 .

Sorry for lengthy post and hope someone can help .
Atb,
Chris

Hi, short answer is yes. Long answer is yes you will be able to reconnect engine battery but make sure you don't have any exposed live connections liable to touch earth and blow fuses or melt wiring. The electrics on these vans is pretty basic compared to a modern vehicle and there is nothing that could be damaged by not having switches or gauges connected. However just as a precaution I would disconnect the battery again before re-fitting the whole dash.

Hope this helps
