Do the calipers need to be like for like replacements?

I've not confirmed what type I have, but I'm replacing them both so can I just buy the least expensive ones or are the fittings specific to each make?

It's for an early van (84).

if you're going to replace them I would recommend refurbishing the existing ones, especially if you're looking for the least expensive repair

Hi, one of them is binding and the van failed an m because of it. Are they quite easy to refurbish? I figured just replacing both discs and calipers at the front would be the quickest solution.

The ATE and Girling calipers are interchangeable but best practice is to have the same make both sides.

If they are just binding then the bores just need cleaning!
Pump out the pistons remove the seals carefully
Clean out the seal channel and bore
If the pistons are not too rusty then just reassemble.

If the pistons are shagged then get a set of callipers.

Crap under the seal causes the the piston to "seize" on and not return

If you are not up to it or don't have the time, you could just buy new callipers, disks and hoses and get a garage to do the job.

my son did that and it was a cheap and easy job for his local garage as they didn't have to source any parts. having said that, a garage would be capable of sourcing the parts form gsf for example.
