Twin Light Grill Kit

Guys,

I'd like to have twin lights on Fugly.

Both JK and Heritage sell these kits.

Are they the same?

Are there better quality kits out there?

Hi, JK kit is all genuine VW parts but they are out of stock - 'on back order' . Heritage does not state genuine but states OEM which basically means identical to genuine but not sourced thru genuine channels. These kits convert your van to a later South African spec and I would suspect that both companies source the parts from South Africa. Since both claim to be genuine or genuine spec these are the best quality you can get and are not cheap copies. I fitted a JK kit to a van a few years ago and the lamps were Hella I believe complete with VW part numbers so definitely genuine and the grille and badge were genuine VW parts in the correct factory packaging. They fit properly and they work properly but you do need to drill holes for the headlamp screws and you need to modify the wiring to connect the inner lamps, which really need a relay to reduce load on the light switch and dip switch.

Indeed, SA vans use a relay to power the inner main beam lights, fused seperately, although I now have relays and uprated wiring for the outer lights as well.

I was planning on uprating my lighting loom with relays, so sounds just right.

Best I get onto JK, and ask to be put on the waiting list then.

I did relocate my battery into the engine bay, upgraded the cable from battery pole/junction box/starter and alternator to a hefty 200Amp+ sized cable to suit crank current.

I had a local company in Norwich make up the cable to my spec on cable lengths, and it was on thier recommendation that the current rating was upped a bit.

That resolves the starter/charging issues I previously had. Whilst doing that, I obviate the need to use the cable from the old battery position under the driver seat, to the starter.

It might sound like I'm going off topic, but I'm not....

Problem is, I have provided a new feed from the junction box to old battery position, which I take it then goes back down under the floor and up to the fusebox is still under the driver seat, which used to carry next directly to the battery when it was under the seat.

I tried to see where the fusbox cable ran over the fuel tank?? But to no avail....

My intention was to uprate the main cable to fusebox, and fit a junction box onto crossmember under dash, and drill into headlight cavity, extending the cable from the junction box to the lighting area.

Intercept existing lighting circuit with fused twin relays at lights, thus saving any additional load across light switches and stalk?

You could always leave existing cable, snip it at both ends and just run a new one. Thats what I did.
