JX oil cooler

The JX has an oil cooler built into the filter mount housing? Is that right?
Is there any mileage in adding an external cooler and can this be done using a 'sandwich' fitting?
It doesn't appear to run hot but then the gauge doesn't appear reliable. Fans only come on occasionally and only after a bit of a thrash.

Fit an oil temperature gauge then you'll know!
The oil temp on mine gets up to 130 deg c ( without the oil cooler I fitted ) but I'm in Spain!

An additional oil cooler is one of the things that's really supposed to help the life of the JX engine.
They're generally added using a sandwich plate above the filter in addition to the existing cooler, with the preference for a sandwich plate with a thermostat.
Brickwerks do a kit with all the necessary, pipes, brackets , etc, as do others like Bernd Jaeger, or you can put something together with components from various sources.

My engine is tired. Last service i got my van back and the buzzer of doom was sounding on a regular basis. It did this the year before just after the service but only a couple of times. I think it may have been something to do with the fresh oil? Anyways, long story short i fitted the oil cooler (Brickwerks) and haven't had a peep out of the buzzer since and I have been away for two weeks skirting Devon and Cornwall. Having the cooler fitted definitely helps!
I'm still having my engine swapped but it's got me through the summer and will help with my new lump anyways
