1.7 Diesel

Hello

I am looking to buy my first campervan and have settled on a T25 hightop. Been looking at various options/ vans online and have come across something that looks promising but is a 1.7 Diesel. I have read bad things about the 1.6D but not much mention (if any) of the 1.7D. Does it suffer from same underpowered problems or is it better / bearable?

All opinions very welcome!

Thanks

depends on your use,
commutes would be a pain if any distance but for trips then i run one and it will sit at 55-60 on most goings and yes hills kill it but im seldom held up......and for days out im in no rush , they are very reliable and frugal

Thanks MM, very useful perspective. If it can make 55 on the flat then that's probably good enough for me. Not commuting but am hoping to do some longer trips down in Southern Europe - but I guess I'll just see more of the scenery, right?

my last van was a1.7 diesel it was slow and struggled up hills,to slow for me as I like to travel some distance and being on motorway thraping it to death at around 50mph expecting it to explode ,it never did but one thing I will say it was excellent on diesel.

Thanks fazzer. That does make me concerned as there's a big difference between being OK at 50 but not being able to do 60 and feeling like you're pushing it to the limit at 50!! Might have to rethink.

I've owned both the 1.6D and 1.7D.

The 1.6D is painfully slow - I didn't keep it for long.

The 1.7D is an improvement and can cruise comfortably at 50 to 55mph, slows down on hills. It's VERY easy on fuel. I wouldn't take it on a motorway. You'd have lorries right up your a*** and getting aggresive. Not good.

I would look elsewhere if you can. The fuel saving isn't worth it for me.

The 1.6TD is excellent.
