Hi guys,

Stupid question time, my rockers covers are very corroded and I'm about to replace them. When I unclip them, how much oil will there be behind them?

next to.nothing maybe a dribble if you parked on a slope and it didn't drain down

use new gaskets or it will leak

no oil gets pumped up there
its just oil spash and vapour coming up from sump via pushrod tubes.

Wilcos okay for gearbox oil though,

If you dont want to dribble any oil then jack up the side of the van that you are removing and leave for a couple of mins, saves having a smelly exhaust which in turn makes the interior smelly

I would look again at your pushrods.

Well yes you are right of course.
I was thinking under direct pressure.

I wonder what the flow rate is via tappets?

I chased leaking covers for ages...including fitting 2 pairs from different suppliers (not Wilco's!), but still leaked.

Ended up replacing the spring clips. Sorted!

If the covers are not Genuine VW they will leak.
Aftermarket covers are useless.

A Smear of grease on both sides of the gaskets will stop any leaks. I read it on here sometime ago and never had any leaks since.
