Glow plug light and now SMOKE from the terminal

Please help! LOL....

Having had no problems at all starting my T3, in fact it starts far better than my TDi Focus! I noticed when I parked in the garage the glow plug light was on but very dim... I turned engine off and back on... still there and still dim. It's been like that for a while and never goes out. I thought about a faulty relay and have ordered one. But is this coincidence that I changed the radiator today and when i've started back up the glow plug light flashed as normal but then after a few seconds came on bright and never went off. Is it because I took the relay out to see part number and put back in thus making a nearly dead relay dead or is the temp of the water connected to the glow plug light on the dash? As in, maybe an air lock so its not registering warm so glow plug light constantly on?

1) If the relay is goosed, would the light be constantly on in my dash?
2) can an air lock send up a faulty glow plug light?
3) It's all just coincidence and its something else!!!

I haven't dared run the engine for long incase I burn something out, but i'll higher the front again and open bleed valve on radiator and see if more air comes out. I appreciate any advise. Many thanks.

Cheers!

There is a sensor on the coolant circuit for the glowplugs - it's component G27 on the wiring diagram below (from the forum Wiki)

In our van the sensor was at location 3 in the following picture - if I recall correctly there are actually two sensors either side of the pipe at that location - you need the one with blue and white wire.

Ok, development!

Cheers for the reply Clift_d

I went back up and i wanted to bleed the system as i have just changed the radiator. On starting yet again the glow plug light came on and stayed on. I left for a few minutes as I was pottering about and came back to walk in my Gipsy to find it full of smoke!!! Thin smoke, but smoke non the less. I let it clear and then turned the engine back on.... I noticed the smoke was coming from the terminal in these wires (Shown it the pic) I of course turned off immediately. Could a ruined relay cause this or something else? Cheers.
