Westfalia fridge issue.

Hi,

I'm sorry if this topic has already been discussed. I've researched a lot regarding this fridge, tinkered with it & lovingly help it limp along as I do not wish to replace it.

On Gas - The bugger lights, stays on for a little bit, then goes out. Occasionally it'll stay on for longer, but not often.
Frustratingly before camping in the New Forest (which was Awesome) the other weekend, I gave it a quick blast with the compressor & had it running on Gas for about 2hrs (after taking about 10mins to light, which is usual) so I thought that was that.
Went camping, it didn't stay on.

When I serviced it last (tightened up all gas connections & PTFE'd all threads. Installed a new fan to inside the fridge above fins, tightened all electrical connections, blew out all the gas lines & flue, burped it) I noticed the gasket on the burner box was looking a bit shagged, but just put it back & had no leaks so I thought, fine & dandy. I'm now thinking its either the thermocoupler or this blasted gasket.
Trouble is.......I can't source another (it is a serviceable part, but nobody services them anymore) or I can't find where to buy the material so I can cut my own or I can't find the correct gasket making product as it needs to be able to stop gas leaking AND take heat as the burner box will obviously get really hot.

Basically, I need to replace this gasket.

Can anyone please help ??????

I have a Dometic 182a 3-way fridge - 12v/120v/gas, all snug in an American Imported 1983 Westfalia Vanagon.

Don't worry too much about the gasket, Webasto heaters have a gasket (material made by Klingersil) that sits in far higher temperatures than a fridge burner - they just go hard and brittle but the seal is still good. They are single use for that reason. Just use a good quality gasket material rated for high temps and make your own - plenty of off-cuts usually available on ebay. You could also use a silicone baking sheet which is quite high temp stuff - I used to get mine from the local £ shop till it closed.
Just use a universal thermocouple - make sure that you keep your old nuts etc as the correct ones may not be in the kit.

E D I T - no need for ptfe tape as they are compression fittings and sealing the threads performs no function whatsoever!

Cheers Oldie.

I'll be pulling it out over the weekend, so lets see how it goes.
