Fan belt size

Petrol 1.9 engine.
Bought new fan belt from local motor factors and am worried it is not the right size. Existing one has VFB 233 and 8.5 x 1087 S
The 8.5 I imagine is the width and the 1087 the length all in mm. The 8.5 has worn down to 7.9mm thickness.
The new "replacement" one - Gater 6284MC is 10mm by 1088. In that it is 1.5mm thicker/width it will not fit as deep in the pulleys as the 8.5 mm one and there is not enough adjustment to allow fitting onto the pulleys without major force. Although I appreciate the old one will have stretched but I would have to undo the adjustment bracket to put enough slack on the dynamo to fit.

Is 10mm too fat - and I therefore have been given the wrong size.

Thanks for any thoughts/advice

Brickwerks list either 10 x 1075 or 10 x 1100 depending on alternator. So sounds as if you need 10 x 1100 if you can't get the new one on, but the width of the new one is right.

As the actress said to the bishop, 'don't worry, it'll stretch!'
