T25 1989 2L Gas Conversion Is It A Good Idea?

Hi all,

I have a Hi top 1989 2L petrol T25 that is very juicy so I have been thinking of getting it converted to Auto Gas. What I would like to know is:

What mpL should I expect to get on average running on gas? and what should I be getting now running on petrol?

Will the "pulling" power be the same?

Will it effect my insurace premiums?

Are there any mechanical problems a conversion may cause/exacerbate?

Who might be the best people to do it and how much is it likely to cost?

Thanks for any help.

Now then is it a 1.9 or 2.1?
It isnt a 2.0 at that age thats for sure unless someone has grafted something different into your engine bay than standard.

MPG will be just slightly less than you are getting right now on petrol, pulling power as you put it will be the same ( or how you adjust it)
insureance shouldnt be a problem , depending where you are insured with, and nothing else will change, other than you will loose a small amount of storage space inside the van, somewhere.

One thing is for sure, it will cost you half as much to run as it does now, so if you part with £40 every week on petrol, you will be £20 better off running on LPG, as it is mostly about 1/2 the price per litre.

Mine has been running on LPG for 50,ooo miles now, and i just couldnt afford to use petrol now, even if i wanted to.

Thanks.

Just checked and it's a 1.9L  I haven't had it long.

Also, does it matter whether it is air cooled or water cooled. I think mine is water but I haven't found the rad yet..... what am I like.

Like most water cooled engines the radiator is at the front but you top it up at the back as there is no bonnet.

I too have been "gassed" and can not speak more highly of it. with the price of LPG as it is it has payed for the conversion itself.

I no longer think of the fuel costs or the distance when taking the family out camping for the weekend....

www.gasure.co.uk did mine ....took it in on the morning running on petrol...took it home 6hrs later running on gas never to return to petrol.

The gas filling stations are very numerous I, for instance have three near to me selling at 36p per liter, and a BP selling at 48p

Thanks Guys.

I will definately get it done as soon as I've got the exhust fixed (she is blowing like a ten tonn whale at the moment). Gas round here seems expensive at 49p (BP) but I haven't seen it available anywhere else...still its got to be better that 89p for unleaded.
