The engine was running OK, then just died. Petrol OK and reaching carburettor, but no spark. Dizzy cap, rotor arm, plug leads, plugs have all been replaced before, tried new ignition amplifier, no good, tried new coil, no good either.
Any suggestions? HELP!

Hall sensor?

Hall sensors are very reliable and not the first thing I would check but a possability.

Check you have 12V to the black wire on the coil with ignition on
Try a temporary 12V bypass wire to the + terminal of coil in case your ignition feed is bad ( multimeters can lie to you)
Check you have a good clean earth to body under coil
check green wire to - on coil is clean, replace crimp if it looks corroded.

Don't assume replacement parts are OK.

Had something similar. Fitted a second hand engine recently and just couldn’t get it to fire. Started checking connections and eventually worked around to the electronics. Input voltage between ECU input and earth was ok, but voltages at coil and dizzy were a bit low.

Penny finally dropped that all these bits, even the ECU had earth connection to the earth point on the engine casing just in front and to the left of the dizzy. Now that point looked quite good, and stuff like the cut-off solenoid worked fine.

Cleaned it off anyway, and after re-connecting the earth everything worked fine and van fired up a treat. My conclusion was that there was sufficient resistance at the earth point to give a voltage drop that at least some parts of the electronics couldn’t accommodate.

I know - I should have taken better note of the "sticky" at the top of this section.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. However, still no luck, so I bought a Multimeter (£5.89 0n E bay!)
So the reading from ignition amp to dizzy: 5.9 - 6.0
Ign amp to coil: 11.75
Coil to dizzy: 11.6
I would be really grateful for any more advice!
