Camshaft advice

ok, after an annoying weekend changing my head gasket on my 1.6 CS diesel which among other things invloved snappng the end of the camshaft, i need to get a new camshaft.

My local part supplier Millfield Auto Parts (very good prices for most stuff) will do me one for £135.

Euro Car parts do two, 1st is OEM (DANSK) at £175 and another (pattern, again by DANSK) is £65. After a chat with the sales rep.

GSF don't do one.

Any advice on options would be appreciated As I have to reshim the tappets is it worth checking breakers for camshafts or even complete heads?

Try CJ at Syncrospares, also try wanetd ad in the "wanted" section, sure one or two of the usual breakers will come along :)

How much is a 1.9 engine out of a golf etc? might be a better way to spend the 200 odd quid!
Just a thought...

If you can find one! I have had no luck so far.

Yeah same problem here! besides, I haven't had the van long enough to be properly annoyed by the rediculously underpowered 1.6 yet - I need to learn to hate it so i can appreciate a new engine

I've bought a complete (and apperently good) s/h head now, so as long as there aren't any other stupid mistakes or the block is cracked I should be ok! I've only driven it for three days since I got it :?

Bloke selling a full Golf 1.9 TD with MOT on Brickyard the other night, think he wanted £350 for it :) bargain price there if you have the conversion parts already from your knacked 1.6TD

Think that was my Golf. Its now on Ebay. Too expensive for a conversion engine. You should be able to buy a TDI engine for that sort of money and it would be sooooooooooo much nicer.

Golf for sale?

Hey Dansto. Did your cam pulley have a keyway cut into it? Just took the pulley of my cam to change the cam oil seal and bu##er me no key. There is a wudruff key groove cut into the camshaft but no matching keyway groove in the female bore of the pulley. Wierd - Taper drive I guess only.

Yeah - Was having the same thoughts myself - no woodruff key, even though the cam has a slot in the end... still, i'm totally sure there wasn't one in it.

I've just got to drill out one more snapped exhaust to downpipe stud, then its reassembly time. wish me luck! I'm a bit worried about getting the injection timing right. :?
