Sticky Speedo

Had a couple of speedo issues over the weekend, firstly not working at all, then trip and odometer working ok but the speedo went to 50 and stuck there, when dropping speed the speedo would eventually catch up, but later when stopped for petrol if still said 65 after I got back from paying.
Any experience of this and if so what can I do to fix?

Speedos are very delicate things inside. I wrecked one after successfully re-securing the odometer drive gear to it's shaft (common VW problem). I then went to test it with a cordless drill. The speedo jumped out of my hand, fell on the floor and somewhere on it's way down, banged against the table and wrecked the tiny coiled hair spring that zeros the needle. The only way forward was to source a replacement speedo = end of problem

Already done the odometer fix, not touched the gauge for a while, don't know if changing the cable would help, it's been a bit wobbly for a while, now wobbly further up the speed, but notchy/ sticky at 50 plus.

Cable cannot cause it to stick though, just not possible due to the way it works inside.

Once you hit 50 the wing mirrors fold in. VW designed it that way

I would do as I did, check with the specialist VW breakers or put a "Wanted" on here for a replacement speedo head (the ones on Ebay seem awfully dear

Err, who else?
Aside =

we should make a "sticky" list of T25 breakers
