Roof latch detached itself

Travelling down the M5 today heard a might metallic bang. Turned out the frontmost U shaped latch receiver on the pop top of my T25 Devon had been ripped clean off.
Upon inspection it looks like the two holding studs have sheared off.
Therefore I'm thinking of trying to drill these out and put new studs in. Does this sound like a good idea and if I "cock" up is there any alternative?
