Accelerator Sticking - 1.9 TD AAZ

Left my bus in for some work and when I was driving out of the premises I noticed that the accelerator pedal was flapping around and not pressed home on its linkage, so I stopped to click it into place. Since then it is occasionally (not every time) sitting on ~1500 rpm after driving and I need to use the side of my foot against the pedal to raise it back up to the idle. Having studied the Haynes manual it does not look as though there is a missing spring in the pedal area. Do people reckon it just needs a squirt of lube or should I be looking for deeper problems? The end of the cable in the engine compartment looks to be in good condition but I have not yet inspected it at the front.

Mine did this. Just lubed the mechanism and all fine since.

It's kinda weird. I lubed mine up at the cab end and drove for an hour to Wales, during which time it was still sticking terribly. Bit embarrassing going through the Severn Bridge tolls at 3,000 rpm - attendant probably thought I was a bit of a nutter. At the far end I lifted the engine hatch and tweaked the arm a few times but could not find anything amiss. While the lid was up I also gave the fuelling screw a fraction of a turn because it felt sluggish at low revs. On the way home it was fine. I don't know exactly what sorted it, clear Welsh air possibly?
