Good evening fellow T25 owners,
Looking forward to meeting some of you at Busfest.
Can any of you help me out, It looks likely that will have to get a new exhaust soon and was wondering if anyone has any experiance of certain brands etc. We are thinking that it may be best to go the stainless route.
I believe that some brands are a lot louder than others so this is a factor also.

Look forward to your advice and views on this matter.

Personally I think stainless is the only way to go. but I am biased. I fitted one from JK. It went on without modification. The only problem was some of the head studs shearing off. I had to take the engine out to replace them. It sounds OK, not any louder than before.

Stainless steel by Speedshop is what recently fitted to mine. A real sturdy quality bit of kit & fits great. Slightly louder but has nice tone to it. More than welcome have a look at it if yours hangs on till after Busfest.
Certainly worth that small difference in price for standard systems

It's a myth that stainless lasts forever, they eventually crack.
Also some have steel flanges which will rust away eventually.

The deciding factor for many woukd be how easily the old, possibly original exhaust comes off. If, as is very common, the studs in the heads are seized and snap off when turned, even if plenty of heat and a releasing agent has been used sometimes. You'll have to take the engine out to have the old studs machined out before fitting a new system. By this point you may not want the additional expense of a SS system...

I suffered the sheared bolts of doom as many have when attempting an exhaust swap but my intention based on personal preference was to fit an original-style mild steel system (from VW Heritage) so that the original looks and sound woukd be unaltered. I am one of those people who love the original vans above all others and I would never willingly change the factory looks or spec unless original parts weren't available.

SS pipes that have been on a while can soon look pretty scruffy and nasty as well whereas mild steel can be blown over with high temp paint every so often to keep it looking as-new. I will probably be able to swap my system 3 times for the price of 1 stainless system so I don't think it makes sense economically unless you plan to keep the van for a very long time.

I can never understand why people fit steel studs
had stainless studs and nuts in mine for many years, no visible bimetallic corrosion ( had them out just recently), no gauling

just about to fit the Brickwerks stainless pipes on mine the old steel one lasted about 8 years I hope the stainless lasts longer

Evening all, just come back in the camper and it seems that a bolt has come out on the exhaust manifold, it looks like it's had a new bolt in the past as all the others are stud type, I've undone the bottom bolt and checked the gasket, looks poor state and have ordered a new one, but I can't seem to get a bolt in the top one?? I've got boroscope in and the threads look ok?

Does anyone know the size/thread it should be for the stud etc, because the bottom seems to fit ok but the top bolt won't grip?, I've tried swapping round but no joy on the top bolt!

Stripped threads I guess. Needs drilled and tapped for oversize. Pretty simple with engine out.
