Hi Guys,

I've been trying to figure out what is the right fuse to buy whilst referring to the wiring diagram that came with the Autosleeper manual. I've got an Autosleeper 1991 and the diagram in the following link is the same as the one I am referring to.https://siradventure.wordpress.com/2016 ... 00-wiring/

I also have a auxiliary batter charger but I think that is an aftermarket addition, i.e. didn't come with the van.

The way my battery is wired seems to be a bit different/possibly incorrect. In the diagram in the above link there is a fuse between the main battery and the live wire that goes into the relay. Mine doesn't have a fuse. See the wire labelled 3 in the picture in the link below. That wire isn't connected to the live terminal of the main battery at the moment but normally is and as you can see there is no fuse between it and the relay unit. If I've understood the wiring diagram above correctly there should be a 30Amp fuse between the main battery live terminal and the relay unit. Is that right?

Also wire number 4 comes from the relay to the leisure battery (at least I think it does as it goes out of the battery well, disappears under the carpet and appears to come out near the leisure battery well. It has two fuses: One 30 amp fuse in the main battery well and another in the leisure battery well. In other words it appears to have two fuses between the relay and the leisure battery.

Should one of those fuses be on wire number 3?

Am I right in assuming wires 1 goes to the alternator/engine wiring?

Wires 2 and 6 look like 2 core cable. The live goes into the relay and the black wire travels down the side of the battery well. Not sure where that goes or what these cables are?

And for my understanding what is wire number 5 for? The blue wire?

1 Is the original supply to the vehicle fuse box.
4 Looks to go to the leisure battery from the output on the split charge relay there should also be a fuse at the other end where it connects to the leisure battery.
5 Is the trigger wire for the split charge relay it will either connect direct to the ignition circuit or the alternator charge light wire.
6 Looks to be the supply to the Zig from the leisure battery.
3 Needs a fuse inline to protect wire 6 when the relay is switched on or fit a fuse close to the relay in wire 6

Yes there is a fuse at the other end so that is correct. That's good to know. Presumably wire number 4 goes somewhere else before it comes back into the leisure battery well to connect to the live terminal of the leisure battery?

ok that's good to know. What rate fuse would be suitable?

It would be best to put the fuse in wire 6 close to the relay the diagram indicates a 20A fuse

So I've added a 20amp fuse as suggested and got my new leisure battery plumbed in. It all seems to be working again.

I would like to test that the battery is charging properly when I'm driving and when the 240 hookup is in use. How can I do that? I believe I can use a multimeter to do this by comparing the output when the engine is not running but not quite sure how? I've got a battery setting of 1.5 and 9 on my multimeter but not one for 12. Would I need a multimeter with 12 on it too to be able to do this?

Use DC voltage setting on the multimeter, range to 20V or similar depending on the meter. Probes across leisure battery terminals, voltage reading should be somewhere over 12v and go up to 13-14v when engine running.

Doh! One of the earths wasn't connected. Reconnected and everything working fine. I then had a habitation service done to double check everything. We also smelt a feint wiff of gas when using the stove. Turned out to be a perished hose coming from the bottle under the rear seat. It was well out of date! Fire extinguisher also out of date. I wasn't aware they had a shelf life. The electrics tested fine. So glad I had that done.

One thing I've noticed since though is that the new fuse gets quite hot when the fridge is running off the alternator on a long run. I'm guessing that isn't right?
