Flat leisure battery after journey home

Hi all

Got home yesterday after a short overnight trip (30 mins away) and noticed that the westfalia kitchen unit showed the leisure battery on red.

We had been parked up all day with the solar panels plugged in and it was a healthy green before we left for our drive home.

Is this alternator or split charge relay and how do I test for each?

Thanks in advance

Steve

You need to establish several things.
Put a voltmeter across the leisure battery with the engine running (raise the revs slightly) and record the charge voltage.
Disconnect the leisure battery and check the standing charge (what the battery voltage is reading WITHOUT being connected)
Put the leisure battery on a slow charge (disconnected) for a couple of days.

Report back....

Chances are you have a dead leisure battery...or the weak 30amp Westy relay has burnt out.

I've had it plugged into the mains overnight and now back to full green with 14v showing on my solar display. This has dropped to 12.8 since but I've been running a few things. Several hours later. Still at 12.8
