Ok 1980 2L t25
Filled the fuel tank full and gauge only reads 1/4 would this be a sender fault or is there any other things I should look at first??
Both brake lights not working also no tail lights what fuse runs them or are the brakes light switches bad for failing on them??

It could be or a wiring fault (bad earth for the sender)The circuit needs to be checked rather than guessing.

The tail lights are on different fuses and switches but they earth in the same place check the earth first on the rear panel in the engine bay.

Earth is fine and so are the lights it's just the brake lights that are not working and my wife was driving behind me yesterday and told me the brake lights would work sometimes eg like maybe every 20 times I press the brakes on the 29th time they would work and then cut out again?

Most likely you need a new brake light switch, when they wear you have to press the brakes hard to get the lights to work.

O yeh about fuel were would I check for wiring before sender as I'm guessing I will need to remove the tank to get to the sender

Yes the earth is above the tank
Check the gauge by using the purple/black wire from the sender to the fuel gauge, earth the wire the gauge should read full.
