Fuel tank in my Golf Mk1 1.8 Gti Engine

So this conversion was done many years ago by a previous owner. It seemed to run fine as far as I could tell although at times had some fuel starvation and the pump was loud and hot!
I decided to buy a high quality replacement pump and whilst fitting this check that the fuel tank is indeed the correct larger outlet type. Using my crappy old calipers if appears the outlet is 8mm diameter (internal 6mm) The van was originally a DG engine so I assume the fuel tank was left in from this?
I entered my chassis number into Brikwerks website and it states "The fuel tank is the early type, with metal filler neck" but when I checked I have the plastic type with part number 251 201 121 D:
Basically I am trying to be 100% sure I can by the injection fuel tank with 48mm filler neck hole : https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/fuel-tank- ... ction.html
Any ideas what I should do?
