Hi guys.

We'd like a cheap and cheerful awning, preferably drive away type, without the need for sleeping provision.
Basically, something just to give us a little more sitting room in the shade and to allow us to leave the van side door open in the rain.
If it makes any difference, our vans a tin top.
Any recommendations please?

A caravanstore awning will do that. You can sit outside, have the slider open, enjoy a 180 deg view.

also known as a bag awning. Good value, I've got one on mine (hitop) but I think you may struggle with one of these on a tin top though as they hang from an awning channel which you would have to fix to the van. The canopy comes out approx 3-4" below the attachment level so you will need to rig up a bracket to get the awning channel high enough. An F35 would be a better option but may stretch the budget.

For a driveaway option, Ive got a royal traveller 3, bit of a retro design but robust and gives you the option to roll up the whole front - gives a good space with good head height too.

Almost bought one when I was looking for an awning, but ended up with a 2nd hand Motordome Tourer.
Probably not as good quality as the tourer at that price, but well within your budget so might be worth a look.

I've recently been looking at smaller and cheaper dome type driveways, I've got an outwell country road which is great but its pretty large with a bedroom etc. The smaller dome type are more managable and a good option for just staying one night etc. I saw the outwell Silverstone which is around 160 - 180 quid and looked quite good. I ended up buying an Andes Bayo, they go for 102 - 122 quid, cheap but does the job and handy extra space outside the van.

i bought a 2nd hand vango kela airbeam. have a look on fleabay and you will be spoilt for choice. for a tintop a pole and clamp fixing or figure of 8 would do the job.

Cannot comment on it just yet but I've spent a while looking at various types. I wanted something that was a decent size for a family of 4 which this seems to be but didn't want to pay too much. I've been using a gazebo for the past year and really like the fact that it doesn't obstruct your view, however, it's not very waterproof and you can't leave the door open in the rain. When sunny this opens up on 3 sides and will give us that extra space when through weather is bad.

Had a look at one of these today. Seems to tick all the boxes. How are you intending to attach it to the van?
I was thinking pole and clamp to the gutter, but forgot to check if it had the fittings for this.

Judging from the guidance on their website, that awning should attaching using just the figure of 8 pieces. The pole and clamp is recommended for those with shallow gutters; maybe when a high top has taken up some gutter space. I think anyway. My gutter seems fine despite having a high top. It should hopefully arrive Monday so may get time to put it up Wednesday or Thursday. Will report back when I do.
