How to transport canoes with 88 high top.

I have an 88 Leisuredrive high top and 2 sit-on Kayaks (Malibu 2's) and I would love to be able to get them onto my van. I've been searching forums and websites for possibilities, but not coming up with anything. The Malibu's are really heavy and the idea of getting them on top of Nessy or negotiating my way around a roundabout with them up there fill me with dread!
I suppose I am looking for a side mounting idea from the guttering, but still haven't found what I'm looking for.
Any ideas / canoeists out there?

long ago, back in the mists of time, when Matt was just an egg ( well ok, not quite that long ago) there used to be some on here with guttermounted canoe racks, someone off here used to make them iirc, but i'm talking ages ago, maybe 3 years or so, but i cant remember who now, but someone will..... ask on general disc or camping section, it'll maybe get more response..........

I have seen loads of surf boards strapped to the sides of the high top. I would make up a webbing strap and throw it over the whole roof, anchoring it either on the sill or the roof gutter - best if you could carry two - one each side. Effectively carrying the canoes in slings and tying the ends back to the bumpers.
