Central door locking fault diagnosis

Symptom: CDL goes haywire but only after a massive storm deluge. Only happened 3 times in the last 3 years but nothing in previous years.
2 year old BW/JP glass wipers to cab doors.
Usual fix is to pull the thermal fuse to kill the supply and replace a day later.

(Drivers door lock had been getting a little lazy i.e. need to open & shut door a second time because it wouldn't always lock up)

Now the drivers door lock will now only unlock that door. Passenger door lock actuates all doors.

The locks did stop cycling of their own accord before I pulled the fuse, but when I opened and closed the passenger cab door after a short drive it kicked off again...

System appears to have a pair of bridging wires added across the front bulkhead between the door wiring plugs, I presume to make both front actuators work as masters?

Where to go looking? Has drivers unit now burned out or could it be a broken wire?

PS door card rain curtains are intact, not tampered with since first built. Took a peek at the drivers's actuator, top boot is in A1 condition so i doubt rain ingress at this stage.

Sign of a slight leak at lower nearside of windscreen, could just possibly be dripping into n/s door wiring bellows, but doesn't explain the driver's side failure

Are they original VW CL motors or after market?

The drivers door failing to lock/unlock other doors may be down to the springs on the sliding sliding contact disintegrating.
A lazy motor is probably down to the rotating gear/contact becoming worn.
When I had continual cycling it was down to the rotating gear/contact not stopping the current at the end of travel.

Mine had quite severe water ingress despite the bellows looking fine.

Thanks for your input. All original VW CL motors, apart from taigate that is now on its second T4 one. What with the driver's one getting twitchy I think its the most likely suspect for being worn out.

I had to replace the springs on the sliding contact, I found a cheap propelling pencil (one of those with a button on the top that advances the lead) had a spring almost perfect.

Thanks for the tip, I will remove it and see whats going on inside (before I go hunting for a broken wire)

Mine used to lock/unlock, found two wires broke in the door jam. repaired those and its been good for around a year now.

Ta Lloyd, its just the thought of grovelling in the corner and refitting that rubber conduit...we know that all VWs break the door wires eventually
