push rod tubes / oil drip

Hi
I've got a oil drip coming from the bottom of the engine casing (Its been there as long as the s/h engine has been in - ie about 6 - 7 years(I presume the push rod tubes) - I have replaced the oil filler pipe (as I thought it was that originally).
How hard (& long) is it for a garage to replace the push rod tubes - i'm presuming its a head off job.

It depends on the engine type, watercooled or Aircooled, and whether you don't mind fitting telescopics

2.1 petrol = don't mind using telescopics (if it's quicker, easier & cheaper without too much compromise) - would be soo nice not to be loosing oil over the drive (& where ever we go) - The Mrs will be soooo much happier as well.

Check first, could be other things leaking like crank seals, oil pressure switch or oil cooler seal.
Take push rod covers off clean up and monitor it, you can drive it without the covers.
If you need then Scat big mouth get them from VWH for 65 quid a set.

WHS^^^ Easy enough job, just did it myself. You can get a small discount too if you are a member on here. It's easy and free to join. (though occasionally it's good to give something back). D
Don't forget to order a couple of rocker cover gaskets too

If this is what you need to do then another thing worth noting is it's best to crush the tubes, bend them in the middle and pull them out whole rather than hacksawing them , I suppose you could crush and cut with tin snips but you may still get swarf into the tappets, yes it's just aluminium swarf but you don't want it in the tappet bores.

Pushrod tubes are a type of stainless steel, not aluminium.
(Yes I know they can rust, more corrosion resistant)

Ohh didn't know that, Just assumed Aluminium, even more reason not to get swarf into tappet bores.
