jk awnings

I currently have a bluebird customs awning, but when the inner tent is used there is little space to move around/store things, its also quite dark as it only has 2 little windows. when it rains we end up being shoe horned into the van.

i quite like the idea of the berlin awning however there is usually 3 of us, me and the mrs AKA (FROSTY) in the van and my brother in the awning. We meet up with a group of about 14 friends at bug jam and divadubs i thought it might be useful for us all to gather in in the event of a down pour ect...

Are they a pain in the ass to put up, would i be better off with the hamburg.

any comments are greatly appreciated good and bad

Thanks

Lee

My brother has the smaller of the two JK awnings (Hamberg???) it is absolutely massive compared to the Bluebird (which I have). He puts it up no trouble but it's a lot easier with two people. I would think the problem with the bigger JK one would be that some pitches would be too small.

Yeah good point, especially at bug jam when your shoved into the fields like cattle.

they are massive, really great, have so much room now, just the same as putting bluebird one up its just bigger

I bought the JK berlin I think it is? it has a 4 bed tent inside and a place for another at the other end, it is realy too big, it dwarfs the van. It probably is what you are looking for as it is listed as 8 berth and there is plenty of room for another 5 or 6 in the middle. I got mine from a boot sale for £45 it was brand new never been out of the bag, but the woman that bought it had decided they were no longer going to be able to use it, a fortunate buy for me as they are £300 as I found out when I got home :D

im in the market for a new awning,i have the old blue bird tunnel which is ok,but not the most sturdy or waterproof of awnings.
I think i am going to go for the new just kampers frame awning,as it looks nice and strong and should stand up to the wind better than a tunnel awning.
The berlin is huge we were going to get one,but there have been a few quality issues with them like falling apart at the seams after only one trip out  .
That put me off them in the end, although they are so big you could hold a party in one!.

Yes we became disilusioned with the quality and waterproofness of the current crop of awnings so we went for a french frame tent..(cabannon)

That is a fantastic idea,i take it you made the tunnel that joins it to the van yourself?
We have a frame tent like that,is there any chance you could let me know how you made it in to an awning,as we would like to convert ours?
We will have tons of room then.

Lee

the tunnel is made from the "sun canopy" and the side is the door!

a couple of bungies over the van roof hold the canopy and the side is hung from the canopy with strong locking clips then pegged down at the botom.

obviously summer use

we are going to make a better job of the sides though to be honest maybe a zipper affair looks likley especialy for the winter

Cool.
It looks the buisness, you cant beat frame tents for space, then the camper for comfort ,best of both worlds. :) .
Will see what i can do with mine.
cheers.
