Engine change....gearbox change?

Hi all.
Can anyone help. I have an 82' Transporter that I'm converting to a camper, which has the 1.6Ct Aircooled lump.
I've taken this out as I want to upgrade to the 2.0Cu engine.
The question I have is will I need to change the gearbox?? Or indeed any other major issues with upgrading the engine?
Loads of thanks
Simon

Do you have a brake servo on your 1.6 ?

As above 2.0ltrs have a servo fitted.
You will need to change the gearbox as the 2.0ltr has a higher final drive but a slightly lower 4th gear and the input shaft is longer, also you will need to fit your clutch arm and brackets from the old gearbox for the clutch cable as 2.0ltrs have a hydraulic operated clutch.

I was also contemplating the same swap. I added up the cost of a good complete engine with all tinware and ancillaries plus the change of brake pedal set up with servo and a new gearbox.
In the end I bought a mk3 golf gti with full service history and bad rust. Stripped it of all the bits needed for the conversion, flogged the rest on flea bay which more than covered the cost of the car. Purchased all the remaining bits needed from the web . All in the cost has been much the same .
Its may seem a bit daunting but this forum has been fantastic. You get stuck don't know what to do ask the qusetion, hey presto you replies giving advice from peopke tbat have bern there and done it. My bus has taken me a year but I'm 90% there I'll have 115bhp and heating can't wait.
Dave.

Loads of thanks all for the replies, looks like I have some work to do as I've just got hold of a low mileage 2.0lCu!!!

I'll check if mine has a servo but not sure if it does.

This is my first venture into the T25 world and with Forums like this I know there will be help at hand.

Right...where's the credit card, need to do some shopping by the looks of it ;-))
