Driving my delightful lump of fun yesterday I had the extremely pleasant experience of nearly being smoked alive. Upon my arrival home we discovered that the pipe that connects to the exhaust and heat exchanger (?) on the right hand side had decided to totally drop off and after an hour covering my tracks could not be located. Can anyone help firstly with telling me what its called and secondly where to locate a replacement?

Bertha is 1981 2.0 petrol Aircooled and the bane of my life at this moment in time.

If you've got exhaust fumes coming in via the heater, then your heat exchanger has rusted out inside.
If it's 'just' engine fumes (not exhaust), then the corrugated connecting pipe has come away (as you suggest). Easy enough to buy from any supplier.
