Questions about things attached to the battery

The van has some things (and always has had) attached to the battery - I don't know what they are but Id like to remove them.
The bottom photo shows a mic cable or similar, attached to the battery also.
My question is how safe is it to remove these? Im worried about getting shocks, how do I avoid this and is it possible to cut them off?
Thanks all

It looks like someone has used the socket (XLR microphone socket) as a place to plug something in to the battery.
Its unusual to use this type of socket, but they are capable of carrying a few amps and the cable seems to be fused (white sleve).
No chance of getting a shock Its just 12V Though you want to cut one wire at a time, as close to the terminal as possible.
Personally, I'd undo the bolt and remove the terminal as well.

Thanks TonyTech - when I bought the van 8 years ago the guy said it was an ex BBC bus (sorry if those have heard me say this all before!)..so perhaps thats where the mic comes in?
If I remember rightly last time I put a new battery in , I couldnt undo that bolt that they are all attached to as it was all rusty and stuff.
But thanks for letting me know that its only 12v, i feel safer now.
